Tonight at 7 pm in Union Room 3602 your Student Senate will host the annual crosscutting review of the Division of Student Life’s performance plan. At this review, Vice President Eddie Knowles will give a presentation of the highlights of the plan, and then engage the audience in a dialogue about the initiatives he has outlined. This is your best opportunity to directly shape the programs and policies the Institute pursues in student life next year.

At last week’s Senate meeting, we approved 10 new and returning members and alternates to the Judicial Board. The J-Board is the branch of your student government charged with hearing cases on judicial matters. In particular, when a student is found to be in violation of an Institute policy by the Dean of Students Office, the case is generally referred to the Judicial Board for a hearing. A search committee interviewed many qualified candidates and presented the best 10 to the Senate for confirmation.

This weekend, the President of the Union and I will travel to Corning for the annual Association of College Unions International Conference. We will attend educational seminars and networking events to learn better methods to manage the resources we have, represent our students, and showcase the successes we have achieved. Union advisor Cameron McLean will be a featured speaker for her work on event management at the Rensselaer Union.

Your varsity athletics teams were very active this weekend. The football team scored its eighth victory on Saturday, crushing St. Lawrence 55-0 at Canton. Star quarterback Dan Cole threw for four touchdowns, while the defense held its opposition to 160 yards during the trouncing.

Men’s hockey was also active this weekend, winning 4-3 in overtime at archrival Clarkson on Friday, then losing 4-0 to St. Lawrence on Saturday. The team is now 3-3-1 on the season. This Friday, the team plays Vermont in the first annual Black Friday match. Game time is 7 pm, and all fans are encouraged to wear entirely black clothing.

Also this weekend, the women’s hockey team beat Utica on Friday night to improve to 2-0-1, and the cross-country teams placed in the top half of the field at the New York State Championships in Saratoga Springs. Women’s hockey plays away on Friday, then hosts MIT on Saturday at 3 pm and Clarkson on Sunday at 2 pm. All games feature free admission. The cross-country teams compete in the NCAA Regionals on Saturday in Geneseo.
