This was another stellar week for RPI athletics. Our undefeated football team came from behind to defeat St. John Fisher 24-17 on Saturday. The Engineers are now 7-0 on the season. The game will be broadcast beginning at 1 pm on 91.5 FM, WRPI. The team is home on November 15 against Hobart for its final regular season game.
The men’s hockey team was also victorious this weekend, fighting hard to notch a 5-4 win in the third period on Saturday against Merrimack. The team takes a three game unbeaten streak on the road to face Clarkson on Friday and St. Lawrence on Saturday. On November 14, the team is home against Vermont in the Black Friday game. Fans are strongly encouraged to wear all black clothing. The team will be skating in single use black jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game. Stay tuned for more details next week.
Our women’s hockey team also scored an impressive victory, beating Division I Sacred Heart 3-0 on Saturday at the Houston Field House. The unbeaten Engineers play next at home Friday against Utica. Admission is free, with a 7 pm scheduled puck drop.
Last Friday, the President of the Union and I met with Institute President Jackson. The meeting was extremely productive, with everyone openly sharing ideas and philosophies about the future of RPI and the quality of the student experience here. As always, we included suggestions and comments we have received from students as a focus of the discussion, and received insightful and detailed information about how we can work together to achieve our goals. I am pleased to be able to report that we are all on the same page, moving ahead together to ensure a stronger, more responsive campus climate.
The Senate continues its work to complete the projects I outlined to you in previous weeks. At Friday’s meeting, I asked our project leaders to report on the progress they have made. All five reports were very positive. The Senate voted to continue each of the projects, with the belief that all have made satisfactory or better progress toward their objectives.
The next few weeks will be challenging for everyone. This is the home stretch academically for the fall semester. Do not burn out. No matter what the workload, make sure you take some time for yourself. Get off campus. Go to the mall. Take a road trip. Do something to rest your mind. You will be more productive afterward and produce better work.
If there is anything I can do to be of service to you, do not hesitate to contact me. The usual methods work, including gm@rpi.edu, 276-8597, and “RPI Grand Marshal” on AIM. The Senate is also available and eager to help, at senate-listens@rpi.edu.
