Since the 2000-2001 school year, RPI has had 15 athletes honored as National Academic All Americans by The College Sports Information Directors of America. This number of honorees is tied for 10th in the country and third within Division III.
The awards are given out to athletes in 12 sports for their academic and athletic performance. At RPI, awards have been given to members of the football, men’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, track and field, and women’s soccer teams.
The University of Nebraska has had the most Academic All Americans, 28, in the past three years. Ken Ralph, the institute’s athletics director, said the achievement was tremendous and pride-worthy.
