Union offers many services

Suzanne Peluso
President of the Union

Hello everyone. I’ve been sitting in the McNeil Room, thinking about some things to write about, and I have overheard many conversations relating to the Rensselaer Union. I began to realize that not everyone knows what services are available through the Union. I’d like to note a few resources that may be very helpful during your time here.

Student Legal Services: The Union offers free legal service, funded by the Student Activity Fee, for any RPI student. Consultation hours are in Union Room 3510B on Mondays and Thursdays. Walk-ins are welcome from 3:30-4:30 pm or you may call 272-6565 to set up an appointment from 4:30-5:30 pm.

Off-campus Housing Database: The online database provides local apartment listings and contact information to assist you in a search for an apartment. Check out the website at http://offcampus.union.rpi.edu/.

Wireless: For those without wireless built into their laptop, the Union provides wireless internet cards that you can sign out from Father’s.

Clubhouse Pub: For those who are of legal age, stop by the Pub located on the third floor of the Union. The Pub is open Monday through Friday from 4 pm-midnight, and Saturdays 6 pm-midnight. There are daily specials and a happy hour on Fridays, as well as various other promotions during the semester.

Club Management System: A new information system was created to manage your club memberships, view club details, or join new clubs. Go to the clubs and organizations website (http://clubs.union.rpi.edu/) and create an account to access this addition to the latest system.

The Union Administration Office provides other services, such as the McNeil Emergency Loan Fund, notary service, and Union room reservations. You may stop by or contact the Administration Office at 276-6505 for further information about any of their services.

I hope many of you are able to take some time off and enjoy the long weekend. If you are around campus, there is a lot that will be happening, as always. On Friday, you can catch the men’s soccer game versus Skidmore at 4 pm on the Harkness Field. That night, Mother’s presents an Open Mic Night at 8 pm, while the Alianzo Latino Date Auction takes place in the McNeil Room. The undefeatable varsity football team will take on Union this Saturday at 1 pm on the ’86 Field. They will be competing for the Dutchman Shoes, one of the best attended games of the season. Men’s soccer will continue their home games Saturday at 2 pm against Union and Tuesday at 6 pm against Keene State.

As always, you may contact me at pu@rpi.edu or the entire Executive Board at eboard@union. rpi.edu. We have been brainstorming some ideas for projects this year, and would appreciate hearing some feedback from students. Our meetings are Wednesdays at 7 pm and open to everyone.
