The Rensselaer Science Fiction Association opened its newly expanded library of science fiction and anime on the first floor of Warren Hall. A reception in the hall’s lounge provided an atmosphere of casual celebration to the event. Refreshments were served at 7:30 pm, and the ceremony began at 8 pm.

A surprising turnout, whether drawn by the free refreshments or not, showed how much the club has grown in recent years. The RSFA officers made some opening remarks about the importance of science fiction before cutting the ribbon to officially open the library. Despite the fact that the small manicure scissors, the only scissors on hand, took several minutes to cut the ribbon, a cheer went up nonetheless when the ribbon was finally cut.

The club’s library, until several years ago, had been housed in the Shelnutt Gallery in the Union. It soon outgrew its space, however, and the RSFA officers set about finding a new home for their library. They found one in Warren Hall. The new library, a product of two and a half years of effort, contains over 2000 books, VHS tapes, and DVDs of science fiction and anime works. The library is only open to members of the club, but to become a member requires only a $10 fee.
