It has been raining lately, and it isn’t just drizzling rain but heavy showers. You’re lucky if you always bring an umbrella, but nobody can predict the weather. Yes, there is The Weather Channel, but who has time to watch it when you have a pile of homework to finish?

Last week, after my last class, which finished late since the professor had so many things to teach that he lost track of time, I was, walking, no, make it running, to the bus stop, hoping that I could still catch the bus. I had reached the corner of the Union and the bus still hadn’t come. Lucky for me, I hadn’t missed the bus. But unfortunately, the bright and sunny sky that greeted me on that morning when I stepped out of my apartment, suddenly turned grey. I could hear thunder, and all of the sudden, it started to rain. To make matters worse, it was a heavy shower and I didn’t have an umbrella. In just a minute, I was soaked with the acidic and polluted rain.

At that time I just started to notice that there is no shelter at this bus stop. There I was, with nowhere to go to seek shelter from the rain. I could run to the Union but then I would stand the chance of missing the bus and wasting another hour while waiting for the next trip.

It’s a wonder how the school can spend millions of money to build the new EMPAC, the new biotechnology center and the parking garage but has forgotten basic needs of the students, such as a bus shelter. Maybe they just missed it, since it is only a trivial matter and doesn’t signify anything about the development of the school when compared with the other buildings.

Let me suggest that the school build a bus shelter at the bus stops that students really do use to wait for the bus. These bus stops would include the stops at the Union, near the Colonie apartments, and under the bridge at 15th Street. The shelters would be a great place for protection from not only the rain, but also other bad weather conditions. Hopefully, I won’t have to get wet again while waiting for the bus next time.
