Have fun before senior year

After three long years at RPI, I’m a senior, and am happily looking forward to graduation. Of course this hardly makes the next eight months any easier, because between now and then, there is an uncountable number of things for me to get done.

The first thing that comes to mind, which is probably supposed to be the first priority for seniors, is our classes. Most seniors can probably agree that this year has a lot of work that likes to build up due to the amount of time it requires from us. Between meeting with group members and finding time to do any research needed, it’s enough to keep the average student quite busy. Then there are always meetings of clubs, activities, and sports that we are probably highly involved in by now. Of course, many will say these should be the first to go, but many of them offer good experiences that we shouldn’t lose.

Now these two things combined are enough to keep monkeys running around for days, and we do, but that is not at all close to where all the demands end. Now, we get the added bonus of preparing for this thing called “the real world.” With this in mind, we all prepare to fill out grad school applications, revise our resumes, search for job openings, and make the decisions that we could possibly regret when we are 50.

So to those who have yet to reach this final year, I’m warning you now to have your fun while there are only classes and activities holding you down. Be adventurous and open to new things; surprisingly we have access to a lot here in the Capital Region. If an opportunity comes up, jump at it. I swore when I got here freshman year that I would go skydiving, and the chances have come, and my feet are still on the ground. This year I’ve joined a few other clubs—besides staying quite active in The Poly—and I’ve come to realize I should have explored my slight interests sooner.
