Hello everyone—I hope your week has been off to a good start. As always, there are a lot of things going on around campus. This weekend will mark the first Athletics Alumni Reunion Weekend on September 19 and 20. The Student Athletic Advisory Committee is hosting this event, where alumni have been invited back to campus to meet with current students, teammates, and friends. Highlights include a kick- off reception in the Union, a tailgate barbeque on Saturday, followed by a football game versus Coast Guard.
I had the opportunity to attend the Cultural Pride Night, organized by Lambda Upsilon Lambda fraternity, last Saturday in the Union. This night has been intended to unite the campus community, increase cultural awareness, and allow students to practice free expression through various mediums. I was so impressed with the amount of enthusiasm everyone displayed, and the amount of pride that was seen in the room. Included in the program were great performances by the Philippine American League, NSBE Step Team, Indian Students Association, 2Dance4Ever Salsa Squad, in addition to several individual acts of poetry and music. Great job to the participants and the audience for a very successful evening.
The Executive Board went on a ropes course this past weekend, organized by the Archer Center. We were able to complete the high elements of the course, providing for a very interactive day of teamwork and excitement. Our group worked great with each other right from the start, and were able to form an understanding of each member’s personalities and methods of problem solving.
Congratulations to the newly elected Class of 2007 officers and senators. For all candidates that ran an excellent race, I hope that you keep up the motivation to be involved in the many areas of student life. I was reminded this past weekend that Rensselaer is rated a top school for the “Most Things to do on Campus.” Our Student Union provides a vast amount of programs available to every Rensselaer student. Take advantage of these opportunities and be part of what is out there.
I will be interviewing this week for the Class of 2007 representative position to the E-Board. Fill out an application found around campus or in the Union Administration office, then sign up for an interview slot on the GM/PU door. I’d like to appoint a representative by the end of this week, so I recommend that you apply now. There are other positions open on the E-board as well, so contact me soon if you are still looking to be involved with this body of student government. I can be reached at pu@rpi.edu, and the entire board can be contacted at eboard@union.rpi.edu.
