John Ferrari/The Polytechnic ANDREA ERDEKIAN CRUSHES a backhand in a match at the RPI Invite in Prospect Park over the weekend. Nazareth took the Invite with four points, SUNY New Paltz took second with three points, and Rensselaer took third, winning two matches. Plattsburgh State and Russell Sage made a good showing, but failed to tally any points. This is the fourth year of five that Nazareth has taken the championship.
Despite their strong play, the RPI doubles teams did not score a point. Kerry Farrell and Becky Sparacin won four matches in the first flight and Angela Tessoni and Ann Kucheryaven took the third flight to score two points for New Paltz. Andrea Gaddis and Robin Medina won the second doubles flight for Nazareth. RPI scored their two points in singles, with Raimi Ishikawa and Lydia Lindhult taking the second and third flights respectively. Amie Larson and Jen Larson won the fourth and fifth flights for New Paltz, and Becca Lenhard and Betsy O’Brien went undefeated to win the first and sixth.
