The end of the 2002-2003 academic year was a joyous occasion for many of us, though being in Troy for the summer makes me realize that this whole town smells like RPI. It’s strange to be here and not be in school.
I find myself being very nostalgic about the first time I came to RPI, student orientation, and the first weeks of freshman year. Mostly I remember the people. The SO staff felt like my only link to this place during my first week here, because they were the only people I recognized. I remember all the people I met in my freshmen dorm, showing up to move in, and finding packs of people from different organizations ready and willing to help carry my stuff for me. It makes me anxious for school to start and anxious to see those traditions carried out for the incoming freshmen.
I personally can’t wait for all the barbeques, free food, activities, and rush parties. If you weren’t into it your freshman year, it’s not too late. Many greek organizations on campus like to take upperclassmen as pledges, and some won’t even take freshman.
The greek community is once again very active in SO, serving as residence life staff members, ambassadors, and friendly faces around campus this summer. The rest of us are busy preparing for rush, mentoring programs, and for some of our recruitment counselor duties. I hope all of you are enjoying your summers and can’t wait to see you back here in the fall.
