Zachary Ament
President of the Union

Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed your spring break and took some time to relax and maybe even catch up on some sleep. The warmer weather has seemed to appear this week, and I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy it. If any students are interested in running for the position of President of the Union, I encourage you to speak with myself or the Director of the Union Rick Hartt (harttr@rpi.edu). Also be sure to check out the Rules and Elections webpage for specific details. It is located at http://elections.union.rpi.edu/.

The semester is quickly passing by, which also means my elected term as President of the Union is coming to a close. But before I leave office there are a number of items we, as the Executive Board, will be wrapping up. First and foremost, within the next week the activity fee packet will be completed by the subcommittee and submitted to President Jackson and the Student Senate for approval. This document will be submitted to our campus publications and will be available to the general public if you choose to read it. As mentioned previously, it has been a difficult budgeting year, and hats off to everyone involved because it has truly been a team accomplishment.

The other item the E-Board will be working on over the next few weeks is drafting a new policy to address a recurring issue. It seems every year some similar questions come before the E-Board, and it is our intention to clear them up. One issue would be the permitted involvement of non-students in Rensselaer clubs. Non-student involvement in clubs and organizations is strictly on a guest basis, and the number of non-students in any single club or organization may not exceed ten percent of the overall population. The E-Board will be working on redrafting this policy to greater empower our student officers in these clubs to ensure the participation of non-students is welcome and accepted.

The E-Board did not meet the week prior to spring break but will be meeting this week at our regular time and place, Thursdays at 7:30 pm in the Patroon Room of the Union. As always, everyone is welcome to attend Executive Board meetings. Please feel free to send me any questions or comments by emailing pu@rpi.edu, calling 276-8598, or stopping by my office in the Union Room 3136.
