The lights down low, the stage set, the music turned up, and the crowd calling them on was just the start of the BSA Annual Fashion Show. Jerome White welcomed the audience; proudly sporting his Spongebob Square Tie, and introduced a night of talent and fashion.
It started off with Alex Grant reading a heart-felt poem stating that “only time will tell how strong we will grow as a people.” Then, as “Leo’s Soul” started playing, the models came onto the stage, setting the mood for the rest of the evening. The crowd was supportive of all the models and their enthusiasm added a lot to the show.
Fashion modeled throughout the evening was donated from a variety of local stores. H & M, S & K, Dick’s, and Finishline helped clothe the men and women in suits and sportswear. They later had a very appealing show of lingerie and pajamas that really brought the crowd to its feet. These shows were put on in a very comical way to draw the crowd into the show. Sparring between the male and female models allowed the crowd to get a handful of laughs, only encouraging them to go on. The evening wear was shown in a very classy and traditional way, with the male escorting the female down the aisle. Last was the club scene, bouncer and all, which had some very stylish fashions. It seemed as both the models and the audience were dancing to the music.
The talent portions had some interesting acts, in both a cutural and entertaining manner. During one scene, dancers came on stage in handmade clothing and performed some traditional dances to the drummers. The African & Caribbean Student Association contributed a lot to the talent portion. A pair of girls, wearing traditional garments, danced to reggae. From the reaction of all present, these girls really knew how to move. The Philipino Amercan League also participated with a traditional form of double-dutch using long wooden poles that are moved by two people as others jump in and out of the center according to the beat. Then they modernized the music and added some speed and dancing moves to the jumping.
All in all, the night was a success and everyone present enjoyed themselves. They succeeded again, and I’m sure everyone looks forward to next year’s show.
