Congratulations to everyone who has received bids this semester. The fraternity and sorority experience is unparalleled. These organizations offer countless opportunities to their members. One of the most important opportunities, frequently missed, is that of giving. Greeks number more than one thousand people on this campus, and with such numbers, philanthropic accomplishments can be numerous.
One of the largest focuses this month for the IFC is V-Day and the white ribbon campaign. Last year the IFC contributed $500 to fund the production of The Vagina Monologues, which was attended by President Jackson and every member of the President’s cabinet along with many university deans. This year the focus is increased involvement. Members of fraternities are helping with all aspects of the program this year from putting up posters to running the white ribbon campaign—“Men working to end men’s violence against women.” It is hoped that through working cohesively with women on the Rensselaer campus, the IFC will help ensure the success of V-Day and build a stronger community of men and women, greeks, and non-greeks.
All proceeds from this year’s campaign go to the Sexual Assault Crisis Center and SAFER—Students Active for Ending Rape. For more information, visit http://www.vdayrpi.com/.
In addition, I invite you to read this month’s issue of the Greek Gazette, which is a monthly online publication produced by the Dean of Students Office. It is a unique forum for greek news from undergraduates, administration, and alumni. The link can be found off of RPInfo under Publications.
Best wishes through the Valentine’s Day weekend.
