RPI lost its slim halftime lead four minutes into the half with Seraphine Hamilton laying a ball up for a 37-36 Heron lead. The Red Hawks came back and responded with another 10-2 run to take an eight-point lead.
Kristin Kaczynski led the Red Hawks in the second half, providing a strong presence in the middle. RPI led by as much as 18 in the second half, and held onto the lead, and went on to win the game 74-62.
The Red Hawk victory was led by Kaczynski, who scored 21 points, and Caitlin Vestal, who tallied 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Saunders also contributed 14 points and had a game high nine rebounds.
The Red Hawks are 10-6 on the season and look to improve on their record as the season winds down. The UCAA schedule has seven more games remaining and the Red Hawks are looking to surge towards the top of the division.
Rensselaer will take on two North Country opponents over the weekend, when St. Lawrence and Clarkson come to the Robison Gym. Tip off on Friday is at 8 pm and Saturday’s game is at 4 pm.
