Leaders from greek organizations all over campus gathered at the Heffner Alumni House this weekend for a retreat. Members of the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and presidents from over 25 greek organizations here at RPI attended. The retreat included assessments, workshops, case studies, and over all constructive communication. The group set goals for itself, for the greek community, and for chapters to work on in the next year. Community service, neighborhood relations, interfraternity communication, and greek pride were among the areas the group felt needed improvement. A board was formed specifically to make sure these goals are being met, and strategies for achieving them were discussed.

Panhel has been expanding philanthropy. This week, the board decided to donate money to the Make a Wish Foundation and Jessica Beamish, a sister of Pi Beta Phi. Jessica ran a marathon in Disney World on January 12 through a program called “Team in Training” which was sponsored by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. So far Jessica has raised over $3000 which will support research and patient services.

“I decided to do the marathon because it’s so rewarding on both ends. It feels amazing to have run 26 miles and it is for an extremely important cause,” Beamish said. Leukemia is the number one killer of children in the United States among diseases, and has affected so many lives. It’s a cause that Jessica feels strongly about and has devoted much time and effort to. She is still collecting funds for the cause, so if you would like to help her reach her goal, you can contact Jessica herself, or any member of Panhel.
