Hello everyone. The Senate spent its last meeting finalizing the kick-off documents that concretely outline each project’s goals and how we will achieve them. We focused on tangible goals that we could accomplish within 10 weeks. With the Senate’s new way of operating, we spent the rest of our meeting working in project groups. I’d like to talk about each project.
The first project is to increase attendance at athletic games. The project is lead by Michael Dillon, and its members are Abby Green, Cody Powers, and Michael Borzumate. The project includes distributing a packet with free tickets, sports schedules, and other information to residence assistants who can use them to take their residents to games. They’ll be working with the pub to raffle off hockey tickets and to give students discounts when they present a ticket stub proving they attended a certain game. Within the greek system, a point system where participating fraternities will compete for points by attending certain athletic events and wearing letters will be implemented. The winner of the most points will win a prize or trophy. Finally, they’ll be working with the Troy Chamber of Commerce to organize discounts at local merchants for students who present ticket stubs from games.
The second project is to increase judicial awareness of students. The project is lead by Peter Naccarato, and its members are Laura Crescenzo, Grant Deffenbaugh, and David Fannon. The project includes creating a pamphlet that details the judicial process at Rensselaer and hopes to answer questions that students have, particularly students that have been accused of something. The project also includes putting the information online.
The third project is an online class and teacher evaluation system. The project is lead by Kristen Powers and its members are myself and Ayala Cnaan. The project includes coding an addition to our website that allows students to rate the performance of professors in certain areas, and discuss class styles and other attributes that will help students decide which classes and/or professors are right for them.
The fourth project is to create a freshman guide from a student’s perspective. The project is lead by Mike Goldenburg and its members are Harol Baez, Horace Simms, Antonio Dorseat, and Cristian Paunescu. The guide will aim to give freshmen real world advice about issues they will face.
The last project is a Senate-sponsored bonfire to be held on the Wednesday of GM Week. The project is lead by Leslie Granger and its members are Jim Letteney, Anna Batorsky, Jonathan Cone, and Shivi Duggas. The team is hoping to rope off an “over-age” area for people to have free drinks. Also planned are food and possibly live music. It should be good time!
If you’re interested in getting involved, let me know by e-mailing me at gm@rpi.edu. Good night everyone.
