Promising new approach made by Student Senate

Posted 01-29-2003 at 2:50PM

Now the Senate is broken into subgroups that are each responsible for certain projects. The groups are writing up documents with goals and definite steps to accomplish on the way to their larger goals. All the details are being worked out in the smaller groups and all that is being reported to the Senate, as a whole, is the progress being made and the goals met.

The other student government bodies are also submitting written reports instead of actually reporting at the meeting unless they have something important to bring up.

While it is still the beginning of the semester, this new system shows a lot of promise in streamlining Senate meetings, and becoming a more efficient use of everyone’s time. The Grand Marshal and the rest of the Senate should be congratulated for seeing a problem and moving to fix it. After all, isn’t that one of the reasons we have a student government–to improve life on campus?
