Despite the problems caused by vandalism last semester, the planned renovations to the Quadrangle dormitory complex will be completed on time, according to John Mueller, director of Auxiliary Support Services.
Mueller predicted that the Quad residence halls will be ready for occupancy by students on August 15, a date earlier than last fall’s projections. The Poly had reported last November that the renovations wouldn’t be completed until September 1.
The contractors in charge of the renovations have been working double shifts to get the project done in time. Renovations have been done in order, with the Church sections being done first and the White sections last. The financing for the $6.7 million renovations came from low-interest loans from the U.S. government and the New York State Dormitory Authority.
The new Quad will have rooms with 72 different furniture layouts, and room rates will vary with the area of floor space provided. The rooms will house approximately 443 students, 105 of whom will be freshmen, according to an estimate by Tom McEnvoy, associate director of residence life and student dining services.
The first and second floors of each building will be mostly comprised of doubles with semi-private baths. Because the third floors connect individual buildings, they will generally have only singles with floor baths at each end of the hallway.
The renovated Quad will be the “cornerstone for residence life on campus,” said McEnvoy.
