Zachary Ament
President of the Union

Hello everyone, I hope your first week of classes went smoothly and you’ve been keeping warm. With the beginning of another semester I want to remind you of all the opportunities the Union offers. The Union currently sponsors over 150 clubs and organizations, which means there is almost something for everyone. So if you are looking to pick up an old hobby or take part in something new, the Union has something for you. For a complete listing of clubs and organizations please check our website at http://www.union.rpi.edu/. Also please take advantage of the services the Union offers—the twenty-four hour facility will be continuing throughout the spring semester. The new coffee and smoothie bar that is serving Starbucks coffee has opened this week so stop by the Union and check it out!

The Executive Board has been extremely busy. They spent three days of this past weekend budgeting for the 2003-2004 year. The focus of this year’s budgeting has been on the “core and critical” operations of organizations. In making these budgetary decisions the representatives are taking a global perspective in order to analyze the effects on the Union as a whole. The budgeting sessions will be continuing this weekend and through our regular weekly meeting times.

As always, everyone is welcome to attend Executive Board meetings, which are held on Thursdays at 7:30 pm in the Patroon Room of the Union. Please feel free to send me any questions or comments at pu@rpi.edu and 276-8598 or stop by the office in the Union Room 3136.
