Snow brings along cold weather fun

It’s white, fluffy, soft (sometimes hard), and it’s definitely all around us. It’s snow. With the holidays gone, this time of year leaves us with one thing left for cheer—-the invasion of Troy by snow.

It not only brings beauty to our usually dingy town, but it also makes the light bounce all around bringing brightness to the gloomy days of winter. As we trek down to class with much longer trips around the snow banks, we at least get the joy of slipping on ice and falling into a very deep bank of fluffy snow.

Now there is also lots of room for creativity and craftiness with tons of free material to work with. Snow is a very useful building material that can be compacted and shaped to one’s desire. FIJI provided an example by digging a lovely tunnel from the Field House Lot to their apartment complex to shorten their trip to and from the Red Hawk Shuttle.

There are always the much-enjoyed snowball fights that occur randomly while hanging out with friends that can now turn into battles with forts and snow banks used as protection from the enemy’s fire. This delightful game brings us laughs and cheer it usually ends with the desire for warm beverages, such as hot cocoa, and a different set of clothes.

While these are just a few of the games that can be played at home, there are plenty that can be enjoyed on a trip to a mountain. Skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and more are offered at many nearby ski resorts that are close by to us thanks to our lovely upstate location near the Adirondacks. While these require more skill they can always be learned, and we all know there is plenty of fun to be had while learning.

For those of you who do not delight in the chills that are sent to your bones as you walk out your door, and the treacherous paths of ice to be taken there is always the comfort and protection of your couch or bed, where TV can be watched and board games played.

Snow is snow and it is certainly here to stay, so I say let’s get out there and have some fun, roll down hills and get cold, but at least you are taking delight in Mother Nature’s gift.
