Jon Slason
Interfraternity Council Vice President for Public Relations

Currently in the IFC, there are several activities that the Executive Board has taken action on as our terms are about to end. There are the elections for next year’s E-board going on this week. The Relationship Statement is finally nearing completion, as well as continued discussion on the recent events involving our greek community and the city of Troy.

Today is the beginning of elections for new officers of the Rensselaer greek community. This is the time to become involved and take action. Nominations have been taken at the last two IFC meetings and will be taken again tonight, as well as have the first half of elections. Please try to encourage active members in your own fraternity to consider taking action in the governing body of the greek community on our campus. The IFC is a very important part of greek life which enables a strong communication to exist between the school and the students.

In other news concerning the life of greeks on campus is the Relationship Statement. This statement confirms the rules by which we abide to gain recognition from RPI to be considered greeks. This document should be ready for ratification by the chapters soon.

The issues concerning Troy and the RPI campus in general has caused great concerns and began a barrage of conversation and action from all parties involved. This involvement from many different people shows the dedication and positive direction in which this is heading, hopefully soon towards a solution. As read by the IFC President John A. Muller, the IFC has acknowledged that a problem exists and is seeking solutions brought by students through which a possible resolution can occur. In the near future, please look forward to suggestions on how we as a campus and specifically as greeks, can resolve these issues.

With elections beginning this week, it signals the end of our terms as IFC Executive Board members. All of us on the E-Board can say we endured a great term beginning with a highly successful leadership retreat in January and enjoyed many good times throughout the year. We can also say there were several tough times through the year. I hope many of the issues that came up can be resolved in the future and all those involved understand that we are all students and we are trying to do the best that we can do for the Rensselaer greek community. I speak for the E-board in saying thank you for letting us serve you and enjoy the rest of your educational careers here at RPI.
