JobLink requires improvement

New system undermines the quality of the CDC’s services

Well, it’s the interviewing season and December graduates are in the process of interviewing for jobs. The Career Development Center has always, in my opinion, been a great resource for the students at RPI. The people there are always very helpful.

I have, in the past, had good experiences with the various online tools that the CDC has had available for interviewing and job hunting. They simplify the process of finding work and are a valuable asset.

I wish I could say that I have had no problems, but my experiences this semester with the JobLink system have been very disappointing. I have had issues ranging from e-mail delays and problems, to the inability of employers to sign me up for interviews.

The issues that I have experienced have, at the very least, contributed to my missing at least one interview sign-up with a company that I wished to interview with. This is very disappointing to me because it destroys my faith in the system.

Now in the future, just to be sure, I will either have to make a lot of work for myself double checking the system to make sure that it’s working properly, or just disregard it entirely and conduct a job search on my own.

I hope that the CDC can either work out the problems that they are having with the JobLink system or replace it with a better one in time for the next round of interviewing in the spring semester. The folks at the CDC are a great bunch of people and I’d hate for them to get a bad wrap because of problems with online software.
