Saturday’s game against the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles wasn’t much of a challenge for the Red Hawks, as they posted a 7-1 final score.

The Red Hawks came out shooting in the beginning of the game, making 16 tries on the goal. Katie Coleman was the first to find the back of the net on a feed by Jessica Butler at 32:14. At 29:18 Tatiana Russell added another to the RPI tally as she scored on a penalty shot.

Dina Cinelli contributed two goals to the win—one scored at 28:48 off a rebound, and another at 23:03 on a spectacular pass from Sondra Sherman. The final RPI goal of the half came at 12:32, as Jessica Pearson scored off another rebound. The Golden Eagles didn’t even make an attempt on the RPI goal during the half.

The beginning of the second half seemed to be going much the same way as the first half. Butler started the second half with an unassisted goal at 21:00. The Golden Eagles then made their only successful try on the goal at 13:20 as Courtney Squire made a corner shot on an assist by Na’Lisa Rowe. The Red Hawks regained control of the ball soon after, ending any scoring opportunities for the Golden Eagles. Sherman scored a final goal for RPI on an assist by Kristen Kubera at 10:10.

The Red Hawks had more of a challenge in Friday’s game against the Nazareth Golden Flyers. RPI managed to walk away with a 1-0 win over Nazareth after playing into overtime.

In the first half, the Red Hawks outshot the Golden Flyers 3-1, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Nazareth stepped up their game in the second half, matching RPI 1-1 for shots on the goal, but still neither team could manage a goal.

It wasn’t until 2:24 into overtime that Russell found the back of the net on a penalty shot, ending the game.

The game against the Union Dutchwomen on Wednesday was much the same story, but with a lot less suspense. Coleman scored the first and only goal six minutes into the game. While both teams continued to make attempts on the goal, neither managed to find the net for the rest of the game, leaving RPI with the win.

The week’s games bring the Red Hawks to 10-3 for the season. They will play again this Friday at Union at 7 pm.
