This past weekend was a mixed weekend for the women’s soccer team.

On Saturday the Red Hawks went up against the St. Lawrence Saints, losing 1-0. During the first half, the Saints attempted nine shots while the Red Hawks made no tries on the goal. Andrea Hamill managed to defend the goal well, only allowing one shot to get by when the Saints’ Meredith Eisenhut scored on an assist by Greta Elliot at 1:02.

The Red Hawks stepped up their play for the second half, making an attempt on the Saints’ goal while St. Lawrence made no serious overtures to the RPI goal. The second half ended without any further scoring, putting RPI’s first loss of the season on the books.

Friday’s game was a much different story, however, as the Red Hawks played Clarkson’s Golden Knights. The first half was quiet on both sides with many scoring attempts, but none bore any fruit.

The second half saw a lot of scoring by the Red Hawks, starting with Laura Feeney on an assist by Susan Gonyea with 33:40 to go. Gonyea scored another goal at 30:09 on an assist by Kristy Nachman. With 7:59 remaining, Gonyea closed out the scoring as Liz Vitaliano set up the shot for her.

The weekend puts the Red Hawks at 8-1-0 overall, and 3-1-0 in the UCAA. The Red Hawks will play again on Saturday against the NYU Violets at 2 pm on Harkness Field.
