The men’s soccer team went head-to-head with the Thoroughbreds at Skidmore on Saturday. After outshooting Skidmore 13-8, RPI still came out behind.
The first half proved to be fairly quiet. Both teams took an equal number of shots at the goal, but only Skidmore snuck one into the goalie. The 4:45 goal by Andrew Souza was to be the game-winner.
In the second half the Red Hawks came to life, shooting nine to Skidmore’s four, but still didn’t manage to score, leaving the game 1-0, Skidmore.
Both teams played competitively, but the defense was just too strong for either team to penetrate. RPI’s goalie, Kenny Guzzardo, put in six saves for the game.
The Red Hawks fared slightly better on Friday night against the Union Dutchmen. The overtime game led to a 2-2 draw between the two teams.
The first half was a strong half for RPI. Michael Greco started the scoring early in the game with 28:35 left in the half on an assist from Eric Jacob. Union soon answered with a goal at 27:48 by Graham Lombardo. RPI closed out the scoring for the half with an unassisted goal by Chris Cox at 25:09.
Going into the second half, RPI had a 2-1 lead, which it maintained for a good portion of the half. The half was fairly quiet with an unassisted Union goal by Lombardo at 15:55 tying up the game and closing out the scoring for the game. The game then had to go into an unproductive overtime.
The weekend left the men’s soccer team at 3-2-1, 0-1-1 UCAA. Their next game will be tonight at 7 pm against Elmira College.
