Six hundred and seventeen freshmen, 50.2 percent of the class, came out to elect their voice for the beginning of their term at RPI.

Eric Engineer, newly elected class president, is tasked with the overall duty to delegate to his subordinates. Some of his other responsibilities include organizing the Class Council and defending the laws established for the Council.

Rosina Schiff, now standing as the vice president, will fulfill any duties that Engineer fails to.

Next on the chain of command, the Class of 2006 senators are Cody Powers, Max Yates, Mike Goldenberg, and Lindsay Denton.

“Although it feels great to win the election, I will be much more satisfied when necessary changes take place and results are produced,” stated Powers.

The other senators echoed this sentiment. “Although the campaign is over, the work is only just beginning,” said Yates.

Though the senators all have different plans, including the betterment of academic advising and examining aspects of residence life, they agree that the most important thing is to increase communication within the freshman class.

“First order of business will be to find out where the class stands on certain issues,” stated Goldenberg, who plans to seek the class’s opinion with as much zest as when he campaigned for their vote.

The eight representatives chosen to make up the Class Council will be responsible for many activities, such as establishing a class constitution, designing a class ring, selecting a commencement speaker, and planning Senior Week events.

The class representatives are Jennifer Mulroy, Maria Milcetic, Ghofrane Benghanem, David Cheung, Garry Mena, Jonathan Ogren, Rob Rafferty, and Renee Sauers.

The representatives share a common critical goal: to increase the interaction with the freshman class.

“I plan to talk to more people and find out what they would like to see happen this year,” said Mena.

Freshmen were also tasked with the duty of electing Independent Council representatives—Ghofrane Benghanen, Adam Marcus, and Christian Paunescu.

Marcus hopes that the freshmen will “appreciate attempts to better their on-campus experience, whether it be directly through event planning or by some policy.”

All those selected to represent the new class share similar feelings of energy, hopefulness, and zeal as they look forward to becoming invlolved with school politics and the organization of activities.
