Conan O’Brian. He was, of course, up to his usual antics and had many instances of his satiric humor throughout the show. Overall, the show brought in 19.8 million viewers, a new high after it having been largely ignored for the past few years.

Jennifer Aniston took home the award for lead actress in a comedy, for “Friends,” and the award for lead actor was Ray Romano for “Everybody Loves Raymond.” The lead actress in a drama series award was Allison Janney for “The West Wing.”As she stated, it was a promotion from her last two Emmys for the same role as supporting actress. The award for lead actor in a drama series was the main shocker of the evening, when Michael Chiklis from FX’s “The Shield,” took the award. The win took many by surprise. The lead series were “Friends” and “The West Wing.” This was the first win in the nine-year run of “Friends.”

In the end HBO and NBC came out even with 24 Emmys each. “The West Wing” won six awards, as did “Band of Brothers,” but both were beat by the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony, which won seven Emmys. I think it is safe to assume that the camera turned to Brad Pitt as often as possible as he showed support for his wife, Jennifer Aniston.

The last to arrive on the red carpet were Scott Foley and his date, who took a pit stop at the local gas station when their limousine broke down.

While the show kept up its notorious habit of running into the late hours of the night, it ended at 11:20 pm this time around. It spent most of its hours on commercial breaks that came all too quickly and seemed to be lame attempts to cause suspense.

While some wins seemed to be well deserved and others came out of nowhere, the night was spectacular as always. It was a night for the stars to shine in the red sky, or the red carpet as it may be.
