Zachary Ament
President of the Union

Hello again, everyone. I hope everyone is doing well and taking this opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather. This week, I would like to remind everyone of the services we offer in the Union. Most students are familiar with the HSBC Bank and the bookstore, but the Union offers so much more. Whether you’re looking for something to eat, somewhere to meet, or some legal advice, the Union is the place. The Union offers food services throughout the day and night in the McNeil Room (Monday-Friday 11 am-2 pm), the Rath-skellar (Monday-Thursday 11 am-midnight and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 11 am-11 pm), Ben and Jerry’s (Sunday-Saturday noon-11 pm), and Father’s Food (Monday-Friday 7:30 am-midnight, and Saturday-Sunday 9:30 am-midnight). The Union is a great place for group and team meetings with the wireless network and ethernet jacks everywhere, even in the Clubhouse Pub (for those twenty-one and older)! If you want to take a break from studying, check out the Games Room, which offers arcade games, pool, bowling, and ping-pong. It’s a great place to relieve some stress and have some fun. For those seeking legal counsel, the Union sponsors legal consulting conducted by The Martin Law Firm on Mondays and Thursdays (3:30-4:30 pm walk-ins and 4:30-5:30 pm by appointment only, call 272-6565). Other services offered are the Post Office and the Campus Unisex Hairstylist; both are located on the Rathskellar level, on the first floor. All of these services are offered for students, so come check them out and utilize them. The Union is open 24 hours Sunday to Thursday to meet your needs.

In the Executive Board meeting this past week the board continued their orientation with a visit from special guests Mike McDermott and Rob McIntosh. The guests explained the business operations and food service operations of the Union. After their presentation, the Board proceded with a general discussion and a question-and-answer period. Afterwards, the E-board began its goal setting for the year, which was outlined by the three main responsibilities of the Executive Board. Board members are responsible for being a club representative, board representative, and most importantly, a representative of the students. The E-Board will be continuing that discussion this week, and defining their role as Board members. This week’s meeting will also be the first formal business meeting held by the board to address several reallocation proposals.

The Executive Board has currently filled 11 of the 12 appointed positions. The remaining position is the 2006 representative that I am currently accepting applications for. I en-courage interested freshmen to apply and there are open positions for all students that would like to be involved at a committee level. As always I would like to invite anyone interested in the operations of the Union Executive Board to attend our meetings, which are held Wednesdays at 7:30 in the Patroon Room. If anyone has any questions or concerns I can always be reached at x8598 or pu@rpi.edu.
