In early August, greek leaders received news that concerns many of us on campus. This issue also commands us to give congrat-ulations, though belated, to our Director of Greek life, Travis Apgar. Dean Apgar has been named the new associate dean of students—senior judicial administrator within the Dean of Students Office. Dean Apgar will be surely missed as director of greek life within DOSO. He has helped push the Rensselaer greeks to achieve levels of leadership and innovation that haven’t been seen since the glory days of greek life. Thank you for your work Travis, and good luck in your new position on campus.
In other news regarding greek life on campus, we have rush going on. As most people are very aware, we have only a week and a half left of the chapter rush period. I hope that for those of you who are currently rushing, you have seen many houses and hopefully enjoying yourselves. Rush is a great time. Take advantage of it. By the end of the weekend of the 20th, I hope many of you are happy and ready to receive bids. This is a fraternity’s way of inviting you to join their respective chapters. For the people who are still very unsure of what fraternity sounds good to them, it is OK to be unsure due to the diversity we have at RPI. The variety of greek life here is uncommon at other schools; we are very unique in that aspect. I strongly feel that there is a chapter for everyone. Please go out and rush and see what kind of options are out there and enjoy yourself with all the awesome events that RPI greeks are putting on.
I encourage all of you to continue making rush such a great time for all students at Rensselaer. Let’s all finish up strong and make this fall rush one to remember.
Again, here is my e-mail address if anyone has questions or comments: slasoj@rpi.edu. Please don’t hesitate to write.
On a different note, on behalf of all the RPI greeks, I would like to take this moment to remember all those who were affected by the awful tragedy that struck American soil a year ago. We hold all of you in our memories.
