My View
Thanks go out to the Clothe-a-Child Committee members

The Rensselaer Union Clothe-a-Child Committee would like to extend our thanks to the members of the Rensselaer community who so generously contributed to our fundraising efforts this year. We held numerous events: a bake sale, pictures with Santa, Father Ed’s Hockey Game Canister Pass, a candy bar sale, canisters in various locations, the campus-wide Envelope Pass with boots, hats and mittens, the Midnight Pancake Breakfast, a basket raffle, and the Student Appreciation Dinner.

The Student Appreciation Dinner is our favorite event. Rensselaer students are treated to dinner as a thank you from their on-campus employers and served by a distinguished group of faculty and staff. Sodexho USA generously donated all the food for this event.

This year we were fortunate to have Dr. Shirley Anne Jackson speak at the Student Appreciation Dinner held on March 5. During her speech to the students and staff in attendance, Dr. Jackson spoke of the invaluable service the students of Rensselaer provide to the offices on campus.

Dr. Jackson also spoke of the Clothe-a-Child campaign, which provides warm winter clothing to needy Troy children. With that, Dr. Jackson promised to match the amount raised by the Rensselaer Union Clothe-a-Child Committee. With Dr. Jackson’s matching funds, we were able to contribute $11,342 to The Troy Record’s Clothe-a-Child campaign.

The Committee wishes to thank everyone who donated their extra change, purchased a cookie, had their picture taken with Santa, bought a chance on a basket, purchased a candy bar, boot, hat or mitten, sponsored students to attend the breakfast or dinner, or made an outright donation via the envelope pass. Together we, the Rensselaer community, helped clothe 113 children.

Thank you from the Rensselaer Union Clothe-a-Child Committee.
