The month of March was a great month for Panhel programming. The month began with V-Day and The Vagina Monologues, both sponsored by Sigma Delta. Then on March 4, Alpha Gamma Delta sponsored an alcohol awareness seminar with Dr. Lori Hart Ebert.

Dr. Ebert is part of a program called Campuspeak, and she gave practical advice concerning alcohol consumption as well as many statistics and facts that maybe a lot of us hadn’t really considered. Dr. Ebert focused mostly on the problems with binge drinking, and on how much alcohol one can drink during a day or a week without harming oneself.

The month was rounded out by another speaker associated with Campuspeak, Shane Windmeyer. Shane came to speak about homophobia in greek communities and how simple attitudes and jokes can cause great harm to those who may be closeted. It was a very informative and well presented discussion about the role gays, lesbians, and bisexuals often play in greek life. From the ideals presented in his presentation, the IFC and Panhel are working on creating an anti-discrimination statement for all fraternities and sororities on campus to abide by. It is our hope to make sure that all people in fraternal organizations can feel free to be themselves.

We have started off April in a similar fashion. There were numerous greek events during GM week, including the Sigma Delta Dance-a-thon, the Alpha Gamma Delta 24 hour Volleyball Tournament, Pi Beta Phi’s Mr. RPI Contest, and the Alpha Phi/RSE Teeter-Totter-a-Thon. Panhel also sponsored the Greek God and Goddess contest—the proceeds are going to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. We’d like to thank the campus for the wide-spread support of these events and to congratulate our greek women for all of the work they did to raise money for charity. We hope to continue such great programming in the future. If there is anything you would like to see brought to the attention of the sororities of this campus, please feel free to let us know.
