Get involved in GM week, fun activities still around

Posted 04-10-2002 at 6:49PM

If there is one question that keeps coming up every year during the GM Week debates, this is it: How can the elected student leaders make the students more involved in extracurricular activities? And, invariably, the answers given by most of the candidates boil down to one concept—awareness.

If the RPI tradition holds true this year, GM Week will once again be the one time during the year when most students who find the RPI campus “boring,” realize that it can also be “cool.” From laser tag to the Spring Fling and from concerts to plays, this week is full of fun things to do. However, what many of us miss is that the spirit of GM Week— with all of its activities, involvement, and entertainment—could last the entire year, and it is up to each one of us to make that happen.

The Union is full of clubs that are waiting for you to join them. Whether you are interested in gaming or dance, whether you want to know more about another culture or country, or if you simply want to have fun, take a look at the numerous Union clubs and send them an e-mail, or take a look at their websites—you won’t be disappointed. It is the one place where you can make your ideas a reality and find people who share your interests.

Behind every GM Week event is a group of dedicated students who want to make your GM Week experience as enjoyable and as positive as possible. Most of these students are also active in other events throughout the year. You could be one of those people, and if you are, then you will never think RPI is boring. So, if you are enjoying GM Week, don’t let the fun stop. Join a club or become involved with student government and you will understand what we are talking about!
