Okay, GM Week is upon us. Time to get out of the residence halls, off your laptops, and get involved with what’s happening. If you have ever complained that there is nothing to do on campus, this is the week you have been waiting for. There are so many events happening this week that you will have to choose what you want to do. Some of the events include the RMA Concert at the Troy Savings Bank on Sunday, the Mr. RPI contest on Tuesday, Final Debates on Wednesday, and do not forget to vote in the primaries on Monday and in the final elections on Thursday. Find more information about events at http://www.rpi.edu/dept/union/gmweek.
Friday will mark the beginning of the week with a kick-off event in the Armory. Jerry Greenfield, yes I am referring to the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Jerry, is coming to campus as a part of the Union’s Speakers Forum. Yes, this means free ice cream! The event begins at 7 pm and will be followed by a performance by The Boston Horns.
Although many of our student leaders are elected during GM Week, some do not follow this pattern. The Union’s Executive Board is appointed by the PU and approved by the Senate. The new PU will begin interviewing candidates as soon as they are elected, so now is the time to begin considering your potential involvement with the E-Board. Not sure what the E-Board does?
They are the students who run an $8.5 million budget supported by your activity fee. They are responsible to the Union in many capacities. Their primary role is to be fiducially responsible to the Union, its students, staff, and services. They are also club representatives, student leaders, and the drivers of change within the Union. The Board consists of 12 students:
• Graduate Council
representative
• Graduate representative
• Undergraduate Council
representative
• Class of 2003
• Class of 2004
• Class of 2005
• Class of 2006
• 3 representative with club or intercollegiate athletic experience
• Member at large
• Senate – E-board Liaison
Still doesn’t sound interesting? How about we throw in that figure of $8.5 million again? If you are interested, please visit the Union Administration Office to fill out a form. We will also begin to post the forms all over campus, and on the E-Board website, so be sure to pick one up. If you have any questions at all about the E-board, what it does, or how it works, please e-mail me pu@rpi.edu, or e-mail the E-Board eboard@union.rpi.edu.
