Ryan Jones Special to The Poly This past week, while the student body was away on spring break, two members of the RPI women’s swim team traveled to the NCAA Division III national championship meet at the University of Miami in Ohio. Junior Allison Geer and sophomore Meghan Hartman both posted performances at the meet that were nothing short of amazing. Both earned All-American honors at the meet. The two athletes swam so well that just their performances earned enough team points, 54.5, to garner an 18th place team score among 54 teams.
Allison Geer earned her two All-American honors in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 52.14, landing her in seventh place overall. She also went All-American in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:53.34, also good for seventh. Hartman took sixth place and All-American status in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:30.97 and in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:08.70. Hartman added to her honors with a twelfth place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:23.80, earning an honorable mention.
The two have now returned to the RPI campus, where they helped send off Ben Fell, a junior on the men’s team who departed Tuesday for the men’s national championship, where he hopes to match the accomplishments of his female counterparts. | |
