Derby Board Marketing Chairman says: Spend your own money
Posted 03-20-2002 at 6:44PM
Zachary Ament Special to The Poly Hello everyone. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Zachary Ament and I am the current 2003 representative and marketing chairman of the Rensselaer Union Executive Board. I often hear many students say that RPI has nothing to offer students other than classes, or that college is so expensive with all these fees. Well come to the Student Union and see for yourself what is offered to you. The Union currently supports over 100 organizations, clubs, and activities. There is something for everyone, ranging from martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do, to sports such as Water Polo, to theatrical performers such as The Players. And if you can’t find something that interests you, then look into starting your own club. Everyone is required to pay the student activity fee every year so why not join a club or take advantage of the services of the Union and spend your own money!
Throughout this year, the marketing committee has been seeking out different avenues in order to let you know what’s happening on campus. Through the rest of the semester, we will be sponsoring various forms of advertising to allow clubs to better expose themselves to the RPI community. The committee is currently working diligently on a new program, the Club Expo, which will be similar to the Activities Fair but on a smaller scale. The Club Expo was initiated because the Executive Board wanted to continue to expose RPI students to the many clubs and activities on campus. Although there is an annual Activities Fair that occurs with great success, many students do not know how to get involved later in the semester. The Club Expo will occur on a weekly basis and will be located in the Commons. The idea is that several clubs and organizations will have the opportunity to set up tables and to meet people, sort of like a mini Activities Fair every week! The benefit of the program will be two-fold. First, students will have the opportunity to meet new clubs every week, and the clubs will have an opportunity to better expose themselves to the campus. Although the Commons is a great location, it may only be a starting point and more locations may be added in the future if the program yields success.
In addition to this new program we have been brainstorming other ways to improve campus advertising, and have been working with The Poly in an attempt to better reach our fellow students. If any clubs would like to take part in any ongoing programs or would like any help to better expose themselves you can contact us at eboard@union.rpi.edu. It is our hope to better educate students about what’s happening on campus, and remember it’s your money so why not spend it! | |
