Commons’ effort deserves applause

Food at eatery has improved world in weeks

Last month, I wrote a notebook saying that the Commons needed more vegetarian options. When I wrote it, I didn’t expect any changes to occur.

I would like to thank the Commons’ staff and management for acting on my concerns. Although I hardly ever see my comment cards on the response board, I do see my issues with the selection being resolved. The newly revamped “Theme Cuisine” is usually a good bet for those who choose not to eat meat, and often the oriental or home-style food has one or two things to choose from. This is, of course, in addition to the salad bar and other options that are always out.

But there is more that can be done. Sometimes meat gets haphazardly thrown into a non-meat dish, or something is accidentally mislabeled. It can be exceedingly frustrating to think that there will be vegetable chimichangas when, in reality, they’re filled with chicken. Soy and tofu have been introduced, but hopefully this will become a daily option. This isn’t just for vegetarians, though; soy and tofu are healthy, hearty, and very filling.

Also, lunchtime at the Commons can be a hassle for vegetarian. At breakfast and dinner there are always plenty of options. Hopefully, the changes that have occurred at breakfast and dinner will carry on through the lunch.

This is a great start. I would like to again thank the Commons for the variety that has entered my diet, and the tasty new options that they have brought into my life. I hope that they will continue this effort.
