On Friday the freshman class will recast votes for their entire class council while the sophomore class recasts votes for class president, senator, and two representatives.

In the previous elections held on October 15 the vote was invalidated because the Senate did not follow proper rules and procedures.

On November 17 the Senate approved the rules to be used in the upcoming election. The Freshman Class Council elected in the invalidated voted have formed the Former and Rightful Freshman Class Council Party.

“We were the Freshman Class Council; we want to work as a unit, so we formed a party. We were unofficially elected once; for reasons beyond our control, ” said Former Freshman Class President Scott Rice.

Bennet Abramoff, Former Freshman Senator, added, “We just started gaining momentum; if they elect new people, they’ll have to start all over again.”

The Senate rejected the Parking Review Board’s proposal on restricting parking on campus. The proposal was to reduce the demand for parking in the North, AS&RC, and North extension lots.

On average twenty-five parking tickets are issued for fire, disabled space, and travel lane violations each week.

“Students living in the dorms drive down to North lot and park their cars their while attending classes,” said Fred Hickey Director of RPI’s Transportation Department.

The new restrictive parking proposal would have prevented students from using non-dorm lots.

Senate Vice Chairman Rich Williams said, “Part of the rationale behind the proposal was that it would provoke the students into thinking about the parking problem—perhaps resulting in a better solution for the future.”

Williams went on to say that the Senate saw the move as a patchwork solution that would divert attention from the parking problem and would only provide a short-term gain.
