After losing their season opener, the women’s hockey team has rebounded well, winning four straight including a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory against Hamilton on Saturday.

The Engineers got off to an early lead when co-captains Andrea Poley and Kate Adams teamed up to beat Hamilton Goalie Jen Kroleski. RPI took 15 more shots in the period but couldn’t get another one through. The Continentals tied the game late in the period and carried that momentum into the next period.

Just 39 seconds after the first break, Hamilton took the lead on a goal by Jess Morin. The gap widened three minutes later as Paula Dady scored unassisted, putting the Continentals up 3-1.

The Engineers Pounded Kroleski with shot after shot, but Kroleski was a rock in net and RPI was unable to score.

Five minutes into the third, Hamilton struck again to take a commanding three-goal lead. With Kroleski looking untouchable, the game appeared out of reach.

Rensselaer got a break when Hamilton’s Marissa Halligan was called for roughing at the 7:46 mark. The Engineers converted the power play, with Adams taking a pass from Co-Captain Julie Durham for the score.

The goal seemed to energize RPI, and they attacked the Hamilton goal with renewed fervor, and the huge number of shots finally began taking their toll on Kroleski. Durham broke through midway through the period, and Katie Woodward tied the game at the 13:29 mark.

Exactly two and a half minutes later, Durham and Adams fed Woodward, who slipped the puck past a battered Kroleski for the game-winning goal.

The Engineers’ home opener on November 20 was a much easier affair—RPI defeated Plattsburgh by a score of 4-1. Woodward also had the game-winning goal in that game, with Poley and the Durham sisters—Julie and Paula—each picking up a goal as well.

On November 17-18, the Engineers opened their conference schedule with wins at Salve Regina and Holy Cross. Salve Regina is new to the conference this season, and RPI coasted to an easy 8-0 victory. Holy Cross put up more of a fight, but the Engineers still came away with a 3-1 win.

The Engineers are now 4-1, and 2-0 in the ECAC East. They put their flawless conference record on the line this weekend with home games against RIT on Friday at 7 pm and Union on Saturday at 3 pm.
