Deanna Cochener
Panhellenic Public Relations

Hello, my name is Deanna Cochener. I am the newly-elected vice president of public relations for the Panhellenic Council. I just want to thank Panhel for the opportunity to take this position. Being part of the greek system at Rensselaer is one thing that has made a big difference in my life. I believe that Panhel has incredible goals to improve women on this campus. My goals for the coming year include trying to get more involvement in our events, such as the annual lip sync, greek week, community service events, and the women’s programming.

From now on, I’ll be submitting Panhel events to The Poly’s “What’s Happening” section, so be sure to check up on us. Keeping other clubs informed of our activities is very important to me. I’d like to start an exchange of information that helps other clubs get involved with greek life events and also helps our greek women get more involved on campus.

Also, in order to do my job well, I will be looking for input as to how people feel about Panhel and the greek system in general. I am planning on giving a survey to all the member sororities to assess the job that’s being done and find out what could be improved. A similar survey will hopefully be distributed among non-greek students to find out what sort of an image Panhel has at large and find ways to improve the image. In addition, I feel that the houses would benefit from a workshop on public relations and leadership, and I’m in the process of planning one.

If you’d like to know what’s going on with Panhel, be sure to read the columns I’ll be writing for The Poly. Or, you can always check out our website. It has recently been updated, and there will be more updates to come. I will be adding a calendar to the website, to keep people informed about upcoming events for all houses. Along with posting the Panhellenic Press, our newsletter, I plan on posting pictures of the events and activities talked about in the newsletter.

I have previously served Panhel on the publicity committee and I’ve held three different offices in my house. The experience on the publicity committee made me aware of some of the foci of public relations. I have also been involved with Student Orientation. I can’t wait to start as the new vice president of public relations.

As Panhel has recently had elections, all the officers of the executive board are changing. The new positions are as follows: president, Jen Spear; VP exec Melissa Szostowski; Assistant Vice President for Recruitment, Nicole Owens; Judiciary VP, Patrice Poole; women’s programming, Jen Angenend; and of course Kaitlin O’Brien will continue on as the next VP of recruitment.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all the incredible women who ran.
