Graduate Council
Grad Council pub night this Thursday

Mitch Gold
Graduate Council President

Graduate students of the Institute, unite! Come forth and be social. As mentioned in my last column, the Graduate Council is hosting a "Pub Night" in the Union Clubhouse Pub tomorrow night from 6:30–9 pm or until the pizza runs out. Thursday is also Canadian night at the Pub, with the appropriate beverage specials available.

As I’ve mentioned here before, the Graduate Council exists to get students out of their labs for a while, listen to their concerns, and try to address those concerns by bringing them to the attention of the appropriate administrators. In conjunction with the Senate’s campaign to gather input from students, we are looking for comments on those issues that pertain more to graduate students. The Graduate Council and the Student Senate Academic Affairs committee are concentrating on the subject of additional speech instruction for those foreign TAs that require it.

Finally, I’d like to welcome aboard our two newest senators. Mike Borzumate, an MBA student, and Antwan Clark, a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics, have joined the Graduate Council and Student Senate. We still have a few voting positions available on the council—one Senate seat and two representatives, as well as our E-Board representative. Each of these positions has different time requirements starting with as little as an hour a week. If you’re interested, talk with us at the gathering on Thursday or send me e-mail at goldm@rpi.edu.
