Editor will no longer be Ed/Op

Remember how I said I wanted to run for managing editor? So do I. I hate to say it, but I lied. In short, I have many too many things on my plate to make it work, inluding the election to numerous new positions in my fraternity, Zeta Psi. (Yes, that was a shameless plug. Rush Zetes.) Read more...

Environmentalist envisions green future

Sustainability student hopes for future change, trends toward sustainable energies

April 22, 2033—we are pleased to announce the installation of seven new solar panels at RPI, making RPI completely carbon-neutral. Twenty years ago, there were only a few solar panels, mostly by the East Campus Athletic Village. Many buildings, particularly the residence halls and older classrooms, have been retrofitted to use less energy. With a far smaller need for energy, it has been easier for the Institute to supply its own energy using solar, wind, and green credits. Residence halls have solar panels on top of them. Gardens are grown on what used to be lawns. Read more...

Delta Phi remembers brother

To the Editor:

On that early Tuesday morning, our fraternity suffered the loss of our brother Michael Dickinson ’14. Michael, in many ways, represented the true brother: loving and kind, with a listening ear and helpful hand to all, ready to engage us in any conversation. Most of all, we remember his smile that will give us solace as we continue to heal. In the immediate hours and many days following, the RPI community has opened its arms to us. The brothers of the Delta Phi Fraternity cannot thank the community enough for the outpouring of support. We appreciate every effort it has made—for Michael, for us, for this community. To everyone: thank you. Read more...

Friends remember Union’s Cafararo

‘Tony the Barber’ often made people’s days, handed out Tootsie Pops

For a man, there is something very special about getting a haircut. It can be a mini-retreat from the worries of everyday life; a time to close one’s eyes and get away from it all. For many people, getting a haircut at the RPI Campus Unisex was so much more. It was chance to visit a trusted friend, to smile and laugh, to listen and care, to talk about family, and to plan for the next vacation. One would always walk in with a smile, no matter how difficult things were for each of us, and one would always leave with a bigger smile because of that brief time with a special friend. Yes, the relationship between a man and his barber can be one of the most cherished in a man’s life, especially if that barber’s name is Tony Cafararo. Read more...
